I made this painting because of four words spoken by a six-year-old girl. Her name is Romi, and she survived October 7th.

Her parents were murdered in front of her, leaving her alone in the car with her baby sister.

When rescuers approached, she asked, "Are you with Israel?"

I think about my niece and nephew, who are around her age. How does a six year old understand something like that? And somehow she still managed to look out for her baby sister.

I etched her words into these columns, inspired by the memorial in Sderot. They stand where the police station once stood, where people fought to defend their city.

I don't think I'll ever forget her tiny voice. No one will.

May we never forget their stories
