The Jewish calendar doesnโt follow the sun. It follows the moon ๐๐
It grows. It disappears. It returns. It begins again.
Each moon carries different words for a different point in the cycle:
This new moon has the Rosh Chodesh (beginning of the month prayer) - about renewal, beginnings, returning. It is moon 1/3
I wanted these three paintings to capture that cycle - and the way Judaism has used the moon to mark time, renewal and our months for thousands of years.
Each moon is built up by hand with layers of texture, silver, and paint, with Hebrew prayers following its curve.
