The Jewish calendar doesn’t follow the sun. It follows the moon 🌙🌕
It grows. It disappears. It returns. It begins again.
Each moon carries different words for a different point in the cycle:
This moon is the waning moon (right piece): prayer words about the moon’s diminishing, with the promise that it will become whole again. Moon 3/3
I wanted these three paintings to capture that cycle - and the way Judaism has used the moon to mark time, renewal and our months for thousands of years.
Each moon is built up by hand with layers of texture, silver, and paint, with Hebrew prayers following its curve.
