This painting was very difficult to make. Its title is a quote from Mia Schem, an October 7th Nova festival hostage survivor. The painting features around 1200+ Magen Davids (Star of Davids) on the top and dancing around the girl, to represent the 1200+ Israeli lives taken from us on October 7th. On the bottom are around 253 Magen Davids, representing the hostages taken on October 7th, many of whom are still waiting to return home. The girl is dancing among them, signifying that even in the darkness, we will dance again, and we will dance for those who cannot anymore. 1200+ lives is hard to conceptualize, but when you start drawing each individual Magen David, you start to realize just how many lives were cut short. It felt like I was drawing Magen Davids for weeks and weeks.

Each one was someone’s daughter, son, mother, father, child, sister, brother, grandmother, cousin, aunt, uncle, friend. Each one was everything to someone. We will never forget them, and we will live in memory of them. We will also never stop defending ourselves and showing the world that we are the light in the darkness, and that we will dance again.

Profits from the prints of this painting are being donated to One Family, an organization that financially and emotionally supports the victims of terror in Israel.
